Hutchinson Boulevard near US Highway 113

Davis, CaliforniaMay 30, 20050 Comments

The trap exists between HWY 113 and Pedrick Rd. on Hutchinson Blvd. Speeds are rightly enforced due to a lack of shoulder and constant bike traffic. Nonetheless this is a favorite stomping ground in the evening for the DPD. The often like to park their cruisers and bikes on the access road next to the ABT classrooms so as soon as you finish the 25 mph turn they have you in perfect spot with an open two lane road ahead of you. Another spot is the olive tree lined rd in front of the landing strip and hidden behind embreology when approached from the east.

Covell Boulevard

Davis, CaliforniaMay 04, 20040 Comments

Covell Blvd is usually not congested and the 35mph speed limit could easily go for 45mph, particularly eastbound past Pole Line, where there are no cross streets or residential neighborhoods not separated by a high sound wall. 45mph speed limit does not start until well past Pole Line, giving a false sense of actual speed limit coming out of the commercial and residential areas. As many speed up after Pole Line, the cops nab them before the 45mph sign comes up.

Old Davis Road

Davis, CaliforniaOct 14, 20030 Comments

Few places they like to hang out here. One is by the freeway offramps, looking for speeders and people running the stop signs. Another is by the UCD welcome station, they can hide in the parking lot and not be seen until it’s too late. The other is further down Old Davis Road by Putah Creek. Don’t even think of going a fraction of a mile above the limit, and if a pedestrian even *thinks* about crossing the street, you better stop. The cops are pretty anal about that.

Whole town

This whole town is a speed trap. Several tickets issued for 1-2 miles over the limit. Whole town is 25 except for 2-3 roads.
