Long Beach, California Speed Traps
on carson between studebaker and the 605
a bike cop mostly sits on weekends nailing people that travel on carson right as they go over the bridge by the town center. P.S. he sits on the driveway to the riverbed.
Ocean Avenue at the Ford Freeway
On Ocean Avenue, east of the intersection with the Ford Freeway, there appears a number of motorcycle officers running radar, using bridge supports as a hiding place. I believe that this is the same crew that frequents the Clark street location, as there are 3-5 motorcycle officers which swarm the area,
then move on to a different location on another day.
Sterns Ave, between Bellflower and Palo Verde
This trap area is a long stretch of road with a low speed limit (30)the street is far enough from any residences where children might stray into traffic to warrant a higher limit. Mostly motorcycle cops hidden on the south side of Sterns busting west-bound speeders.
Clark Ave. (between PCH and Spring)
Motorcycle cops will park between a mile stretch on Clark and will hide either in driveways or on perpendicular streets.
Three spots in the Belmont Shore area
The first spot is at 2nd Street and Bayshore Avenue – two motorcycle cops are parked near the public restroom (located on the corner of 2nd and Bayshore. They go after drivers that drive thru a red light, plus they use radar for speeder. The 2nd spot is at the corner of Ocean Blvd and Bayshore (i think its bayshore), but the intersection that goes into Belmont Pool Plaza. Police cars and motorcycles will hide in the parking lot near Chucks Diner and watch for any driver not making a complete stop. I haven’t seen them use radar, they’re just looking for drivers not making a complete stop. The third place is on Livingston Dr. (near Ximeno Ave.) going towards downtown LB. This is a stretch where you can easily hit 55 mph in a 35 zone. Motorcycle cop will park near Ximeno and use radar.
