Highway 395 Between Crowley Lake And June Lake

Mammoth Lakes, CaliforniaOct 22, 20101 Comments

This is a major speedtrap area. Most of the CHP in the area work running KA Radar while they are driving down the highway but many times they use these small dirt turnouts in the middle of the highway (especially near Mammoth Airport) to hide out. Their cars are positioned so the roof of their car is barely visible to oncoming traffic. They do this at all times of the day, especially early mornings on Friday and late afternoons on Sundays (to catch fisherman) Use a Valentine 1 like others have posted and PAY ATTENTION to your speed.

Mono County Sheriff and CHP patrol the stretch from the steep grade out of Bishop all the way to June Lake loop. Mono CS patrols in a white SUV with hard to see LED roof mounted lights and grill mounted lights. They will stop you for small violations and try to get you to admit to speeding too. Don’t fall for it. CHP patrols heavy in the crowley lake area catching those coming southbound down that hill. If you don’t have a radar detector watch out! Stay in the right lanes and keep it 5 mph under the fastest car around you KA radar is mostly used
