Merced, California Speed Traps
The speed limit is 35 mph. Given how steep the road is when you approach the underpass in either direction, you may find yourself going at least 40 mph when it’s too late. This is why Merced PD and their radar guns love this spot.
Hwy 140 out of Merced , Ca to Yosemite National Park has two speed signs that start at 45 and incerased to 55 along hwy 140. It is a very long and straight road where you can speed on.
There is a town just before you head into the hills to Yosemite. The CHP is parked on the right side of the road pointing north towards Merced , Ca using his radar. The CHP cruiser has a very low police lights so you can not see the car until it is to late.
I spotted the CHP and slowed down long before I got to him. He turned on his lights and rolled down his window and signaled me to pull over and ticketed me.
On my way out of Yosemite National going north on Hwy 140 I spotted the same CHP officer now parked on the Merced, ca side pointing south waiting for drivers speeding from Yosemite back towards Merced.
Motorcycle cop is ALWAYS lurking, either in one of the allies or in one of the parking lots.
From N hwy. 59 the speed limit is 30 miles then goes to 35 to G . st.
Construction area speed is posted 35 coming out of a 55 speed from Kibby. More than one motorcycle policeman at a time. Usually there after 3:00 pm and is there around 7:30. Fine is doubled!
