As you exit Hwy 1 into Monterey, there will either be a CHP or Monterey PD sitting on 9th street, which is somewhat paralel and behind the offramp. you can not see them as you exit, but they see you and they wait for you to cross into the 35 mph zone from the freeway. they also sit in the entrance of the cemetery which is just over a slight hill.

Throughout the Presidio of Monterey (Defense Language Institute) as well as the former Fort Ord, there are speed traps as well as stop sign traps. One heavy area of enforcement is Pvt. Bolio Rd. which is posted at 20 mph. Police hide behind garages and are invisible until it is too late. Enforcement and traps are random and all over the base.

This street is a exit going south. The cop sits at the top and you cant see him as you go by. The exit goes north too and he sit at the top and catches you, you cant see him when your drving toward the exit or after you pass unless you look up your rear view mirror.
