Speed limits on this newly repaved and widened strip of highway are easily exceeded by mistake due to the long up/downhill stretches. Unmarked CHP radar cars are active from the 10 freeway. They may trail you east to the speed drop zone in Yucca Valley for an extra stinger. Do not exceed 65 on the uphill through Morongo, and Slow down at the crest into Yucca!

Morongo grade is a two lane gateway to and from the low desert to the hi-desert separated from oncoming traffic by a low cement barrier there is no turnng back once you have committed to this journey. The morongo canyon is moderate and signs posted warn of a 7% grade. twisted snake-like roads that bends around the hills that are for the most part visible and you can be confident of the road ahead. There is a couple of sectons where it is posted do not stop emergengy only., and there is little to no safe place to pull over. This is exactly where the officer likes to hide, hidden around the bend you do know he is there until your on top of him. The posted speed limit is 55mph but just coasting with no acceleration its very easy is go 60mph to go 55 mph you would have to ride your brakes hard all the way down.he also likes to do this going back up after the completion a ticket southbound hwy 62. I do have to say going up is quite different in the way of you really have to put your foot in it to get up the hill and it is just a fun drive. Beware of Officers!
