Napa, California Speed Traps

CHP vehicle sits on the side of the road by a call box. CHP officer gets out of the car and waits for the cars as the higway makes a slight dog leg right. Trees on the right side of the road blocks the drivers vision. When the trees end, and you are cruising out into the open, you see the officer aiming his radar gun at the oncoming traffic. Too late; he’s got you on radar. They sometimes work in two’s or three’s.

Cop hides by railroad tracks, limit of 30 most people do 40+.

Napa pd sits either on sidewalk next to jack in the box or in median right when bridge ends … tags mostly eastbound traffic, limit 35 very easy to exceed as this is a state highway which was likely designed for 50+ mph

Cop will sit at bottom of bridge, limit 60 mph, very easy to exceed due to downhill momentum. Observed 8 CHP’s using laser on 12-26-08

Southbound traffic is especially susceptible to this as the posted speed limit is 55 MPH all the way from Oakville Grade to the city limits. Just as you enter city limits and the housing developments appear on your left, the speed limit drops to 40 MPH. The roadway is straight, clear and wide, and since homes are only on the east side of the road, 40 MPH seems an unreasonably low limit. Napa motorcycle cop parks slightly down Janai Court where he’s hard to see but gets a clear shot at southbound traffic.
