Novato, California Speed Traps

There is nearly always a cop parked in the Olive School lot (facing Olive Avenue), usually with headlights off, usually at night, ready to jet out and ticket anyone going above posted speed limit – which is easy to do on Olive, as its straight and long and changes speed limits at McClelland.

There is a motorcycle cop at the ready parked on Midway Blvd on the right side going South by the mailbox. South Novato is fairly open at that point and eventhough the posted speed limit is 35, many people exceed it by 10 miles or so. It is easy to do. And the reason people get caught is because you speed up going round the turn between Sunset Parkway and Midway and he zaps people all the time.

Officers typically sit in private driveways (how legal is that?) partially concealed using hand-held radar guns or just inside side streets pointing radar down San Marin Dr. Worst offender is motor officer, who hides on his Harley and shoots from the hip. Posted at 35mph but traffic usually moves at 45mph.

Calif Highway Patrol will stake out this 2.5 mile stretch of southbound, semi-rural road around 4:30 to 6:00pm using radar 2-3 times/mo.
