Rosemont Avenue near Orange Grove Boulevard

Pasadena, CaliforniaMay 18, 20040 Comments

Two motorcycle officers will sit at the top of Rosemont at Prospect, left side of the road, hidden by folage. Prospect is a side residential street at the Orange Grove Blvd light. Pacific Oaks college is adjacent. The second place two motorcycle officers will sit on Rosemont will be the entrance to what appears to be an "alley-way" on the north-west side of the street, hidden by a cement brick wall at the middle hill on Rosemont moving away from the Rose Bowl. The speed limit is 25 mph. The ticket is $360+. The reason being is that a 16 year old teenager with a driver’s permit or a recently received license was speeding in an SUV that killed a mother and child on Prospect (above Rosemont) during the end of a school event. The bridge, which is right next to the school area was crowded with people at the time. (check Pasadena Star News – three years ago).

S. Pasadena Avenue near Bellefontaine Street

Motorcycle patrol is awaiting around corner for speeders. I was given a ticket for doing 44 in a 35. This was right before the Rose Bowl, so it’s probably slacked a bit, but I see patrols there regularly any time of year. It’s a blind spot where they can use Laser to tag you cming around the curve (a natural speed inducer.)

Marengo just north of Del Mar

Pasadena, CaliforniaAug 19, 20030 Comments

A motorcycle cop generally likes to hang out in the drive way of the apartment buiding (second building from the corner, northwest side of the street) just north of Del Mar. He targets both speeders (though sometimes its pretty slow cuz traffic, and its a one lane street each direction) and people who block the intersection.

Avenue 64 between La Loma and Colorado Blvd.

Pasadena, CaliforniaJun 09, 20030 Comments

Traveling north on Avenue 64 in the area one block past the signal light at La Loma and several blocks south of Colorado Blvd. There is a slight uphill grade for a block or so after the La Loma stoplight. Just after I reached the top of the grade and the slight hill grade sloped downward you come into visual contact with a motorcycle officer who instantly pulsed his radar gun. The K band on my detector instantly went off but this would would have been too late for anyone speeding since the location and the uphill grade prevented the radar to be picked up until it was too late. I did not get a ticket since I was going the exact speed limit at that time. One thing to note is that there is a school bus crosssing a block farther down the road so it is not very good idea to speed at all in this area anyway. Some days you may also see the speed radar trailer machines with photo radar used on this street and all the speed limit signs clearly warn that radar is in use this area.
