Placentia, California Speed Traps
Officer is parked in a black Dodge truck with low profile light bar on the east side of the street. He hides under a shade tree and is undistinguishable from the other cars parked along the street. He nails south bound drivers after Bastanchury.
Melrose, both ways, between Orangethorpe and La Jolla. There is an elementary school, and nearly the entire block is a 25 mph school zone. Even during non-school hours, the speed limit is still only 30. There will normally be a marked cruiser or Tahoe parked on the Orangethorpe side of the school’s lot (behind a fence), and a motorcycle cop parked on the La Jolla side of the school’s lot (behind the building). The motor officer always uses laser, the others use radar. All it takes is one kid on the sidewalk, and the speed limit becomes 25. Peak times are between 7:30 and 8:00 am, and 2:00 to 2:30 pm. They laser me when I’m only going 24, so I’m sure if you’re going 26, they’ll light you up. As an added "bonus," the Tahoe also likes to sit in a parking lot on on the east side of Melrose just south of La Jolla and watch the La Jolla/Melrose intersection for crossing guard violations. Cha-ching!
It is just west of the entrance to the Country Club. Police hide on the south side of the street, with the shade of the trees helping to camouflage the black & white police car. Alta Vista is 2 lanes in each direction. It is a residential area, relatively straight right of way, where the traffic signals are relatively far apart and stay green for a long time. Being a residential area and easy to drive, it is easy to exceed the 40 or 45MPH speed limit without noticing, so the cops keep you on your toes.
Placentia Police has an enforcement SUV whose only purpose is to hand out traffic citations. This SUV especially frequents Kraemer Bl. The officer will usually nab drivers on K-band radar from side streets. A good radar detector and a watchful eye for a black-and-white SUV will pick him off.
Motorcycle cop or SUV (traffic enforcement) will hide along side streets nabbing unsuspecting drivers. There is a school nearby, and will strictly enforce the 25 MPH limit when children are let out.
