Placerville, California Speed Traps
Hwy 50 NB and SB Both sides of town
Freeway 50 is 65 MPH. Just before coming into town the FWY loses its status and turns into SURFACE city streets, complete with three stoplights and a speed limit of 40 MPH. Just on the other side of the 40 MPH signs police sit in their patrol car either right on the side of the road or on a side street looking for those that haven’t made the transition from 65 MPH to 40. For two miles through town, it’s cherry picking time. These are local cops, not CHP or Sheriffs. Purely a revenue generator, as most folks are on their way to or back from Tahoe.
East bound Hwy 50.
CHP sits under Red Hawk overpass using radar on east bound traffic.
Highway 50 between Smith Flat and Schnell School Road
Westbound highway 50 right after you pass Smith Flat exit you go under an overpass and at the top of that hill the speed limit drops to 55. You come around a long right turn and CHP (usually the lady cop) hides around the corner.
Sleepy Hallow entrance on N. Shingle Rd.
CHP sits inside entrance behind sign and waits for speeders.
Lotus volunteer fire station
CHP sit in far end of parking lot in the dark. Officer has been sitting in total darkness with lights and engine off but still using radar.
