Not a Speedtrap per se, but a Stop Sign trap. Contra Costa Sheriff’s Deputies are parked at Las Juntas Way in the Not a Through Street thoroughfare right near the old Las Juntas Swim Club/underneath the BART station tracks. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Deputy Vehicle is looking for Stop Sign runnners, aka “California Rolls” Please be cautious and make a complete stop at this stop sign, otherwise you will be hit for California Vehicle Code 22450, and be $114 poor in the wallet. Enforcement is usually during PM rush hour from 3pm to 6pm.

Enforcement at this Stop sign intersection is now occuring much more frequently, especially at night. Beware of new Pleasant Hill rookie FTO’s who are hiding in the Bally’s parking lot, and are overzealous – they will not even attempt to give you a warning. The FTO’s are looking especially at "California Rolls" (no, not the sushi delicacy) through stop signs. Apparently the Pleasant Hill PD FTO officers are making their young rookie FTO’s meet the monthly ticket quotas. If you fight the ticket, be prepared for traffic court judges as well; at most you will have your fine lowered if you can come up with a good story, and can attend traffic school. Otherwise, please DRIVE CAREFULLY in the City of Pleasant Hill, especially in pockets around the movie theater and on Contra Costa Blvd.; the patrol vehicles are harder to spot at night since they are white colored.

Motorcycle officers/patrol vehicles from Pleasant Hill Police Department usually in the mornings with a radar in the tree area of the Safeway Parking lot checking for speeders/non seat-belted drivers. Then at mid-day when classes get out from DVC, be care of motorcycle officers (in an apartment complex going the opposite side on Golf Club back towards Contra Costa) who are awaiting for speeders with their radar guns. Avoid the burger diner establishment nearby on Golf Club Road in the mini-shopping complex next to R-Computer, across from 7-11. There are CHP officers/Sheriff’s Deputies that dine regularly.

Contra Costa Avenue/Buskirk Road

From the right turn stoplight at Contra Costa Avenue onto Buskirk Avenue (the former Montgomery Wards shopping center), there is a NO TURN ON RED LIGHT sign. Also, once you’ve made that right turn onto Buskirk heading towards the back end of the old Montgomery Wards beware of Pleasant Hill officers hiding in the old tire shop parking lot next to the China King restaurant because the lot is so dimly lit. Be careful about driving too fast down that stretch late at night especially!

Once you’ve made it this far, at the Fair Oaks Market, when you have made a left at the stop sign onto the short stretch street of Elmira, when you get to the four way stop to turn either right, left, or straight onto Hookston Road BEWARE of (usually in the afternoons/evenings) Contra Costa Sheriff’s patrol vehicles that are parked in the dirt area towards the far end of Hookston/Buskirk. They are watching for cars that do "California Rolls" through the stop sign. The left onto Hookston will take you into the border area of Pleasant Hill, Concord, and into Walnut Creek. Watch out for Contra Costa Sheriff’s Deputies who park in the lot across from the Ashby Lumberyard late at night/afternoons or along stretches of Bancroft Road. I’ve seen them stopping drivers and actually cite drivers – my mother being a victim.
