Portola Valley, California Speed Traps
Los Trancos Rd. Near Oak Forest Court
Occasionally a sheriff will sit here either on Oak Forest court or on side of the road after the water tank and radar gun people going up/down the hill. Usually infrequent, but have seen multiple people pulled over. The speed limit is 35 however most people go around 50 or faster down the hill
By Alpine Tennis Club on Alpine Rd. (Both before and after it on both sides)
Cops wait hiding on the club side or after it on the opposite side of the road. They are using hand held speed guns and even operating at night without illuminating their squad car. I suspect it is illegal but in this state the judge just doesn’t care, they just want the $.
Opposite Westridge Drive on Alpine Road
Cop hides opposite the Westridge exit daily, trying to catch drivers coming down the hill, or on Alpine itself.
Near the New Town Center (Parkside Grille area – on Portola Rd.)
Motorbike cop hides in bushes to catch people as they go from 40 to 35 zone and also as they go around the town area.
Alpine Road
Sheriff’s deputies are operating illegal speed traps on both sides of road. Local political pressure has resulted in posted speed limits well below 85% survey value.
