Rosamond, California Speed Traps
Backus Road, near Horse Thief Trail
This is a two-lane road with no posted speed limit. Most folks presume prima fascia speed and drive 65MPH. This is a bad idea, since California law apparently has changed with regard to this type of road- limit is now 55 MPH, as opposed to the 65 MPH of just a few years ago. Chippie likes to sit on/near Horse Thief Trail and tag you for driving an ordinary and reasonable speed on an unremarkable road. Chippie will also check for every other mechanical/code violation on the planet. Watch out, this appears to be a new enforcement action- since I’ve never seen law enforcement (or for that matter, hardly anyone else ever ON this road, period) here before.
Rosamond Blvd (near high school)
A real trap.. the CHP enforces traffic in this un-incorporated town. One particular officer sits near the high school and LOVES to get people that are "exceeding" the prima facia speedlimit (he uses radar). This school zone is posted at "25 Miles Per Hour when Children are Present". Normal posted limit is 45mph. The officer uses this law 22350CVC to pull folks over and sight them for both the speed infraction and seatbelt violation. I have learned from other sources that this particular officer writes MANY more seatbelt tickets than anyone else in his division.
