San Clemente, California Speed Traps
Calle Del Cerro Street
Motor officer in center of Calle Del Cerro between lower Avenida Vista Montona and East Avendia Pico
Interstate 5 South near Los Christianos Road
It is a well known area to locals about police activity along the 5 FWY. One news report described it as the corridor that the most tickets are issued in the state. Mostly CHP patrolled. Typically the rule has been if you don’t speed you don’t get a ticket. That changed for me today. I was forwarned by a co-worker by cell phone who was heading to San Diego 30 minutes earlier than me that the CHP was out in force and I should be careful. I was commuting on my motorcyle to save on gas. CHP units had motorcyles pulled over every few miles. I kept several MPH below the posted 65 all the way. One cop that just got done citing a motorcylist immediatly came after me and pulled me over. He stated that he "estimated" my speed to be in excess of 100MPH and cited me for such. No radar reading. Just picked me out and eyeballed it. I will definetly be seeing him in court providing he has the nards to show. I am an old fart and way to chicken to ever go that fast on a bike. Bikers beware. Now they just eyeball you to make money.
Ave Pico – Talega
Pico east of La Pata near Talega monuments. Motorcycle cop. Also have seen a cruiser at bottom of hill Eastbound Pico at Pedriza. Watch out – they seem to have people pulled over. I was once surprised by one and I was doing 10mph over speed limit and he didn’t even come after me, so you must have to do 60+ to get pulled over, since limit is now 50 mph in that zone. Don’t know what kind of radar is being used, probably Laser (O.C. Sheriff’s dept).
I-5 south bound just past Ave Pico and Dana Point
Traffic FLY"S in this area, 80-85 average speed. Its easy to know when they are running. If you see any CIVILIAN plane it is a CHP because this is Camp Pendelton and is restricted to Military (and CHP) use. You can DEPEND on this 5 out of 7 days a week especialy after 3:30pm. It is a Guarented after a few days of rain
Ave. Pico east of I-5
Highway patrol and Orange County sheriffs. This road is extremely heavily patrolled and especially in the am commute. The worst area is in front of the High School.
