San Juan Capistrano, California Speed Traps
I-5
The highway patrol has a station in San Juan Capistrano and is very active on that part of the I-5, including Dana Point. One round trip through that area is good for a 75% chance of seeing a fellow motorist being ticketed. This is true of all times of day. This area of coverage occasionally extends up into Mission Viejo, but is always hot at San Juan Capistrano and Dana Point.
Rancho Viejo Rd. between Junipero Serra Rd. and Village Rd.
Radar-toting motorcycle officer regularly sits on side streets. Not seen by anyone travelling over the limit until in range. Easy pickings as this road’s traffic has markedly increased since the opening of the toll road and many of these drivers are still in a rush even after they exit the toll road. Enforcement usually during the day, Mon. – Fri.
Ortega Hwy. east of I-5 especially through town.
This double fine zone is heavily patrolled . You can almost count on a speed trap every day in the am and pm commute times. Must be a major revenue generating area.

Watch out! Troopers park in the middle of the interstate near SR-74 (Ortega Hwy.) They are running radar day and night here. The local newspapers claim this is the highest ticketed area in California.
