US Highway 280

San Mateo Hills, CaliforniaJun 30, 20070 Comments

On northbound Hwy 280, between 1 to 2.5 miles before the hwy 92 interchange there are two vista points/scenic rest area exit ramps on the right hand side immediately just off of the freeway. Both of these scenic rest stops have on ramps as well. Note: currently on the "second" off ramp for the "second" rest area the road is completely closed to the public with barriers in place. It is this "second" rest area/vista point that has quite a long *descending on ramp* which can be seen clearly in one’s review mirror when driving the far right hand lane. The decent begins to the hwy 92 interchange so traffic is moving down hill after passing the "second" vista point. Very often it is on this long on ramp there are several CHP officers, especially on Friday mornings, either in a combination of patrol cars or motorcycles waiting for unsuspecting speeders to blast them. I would advise everyone to slow down to the speed limit in this entire hilly area of Northbound 280 when approaching the hwy 92 interchange. On my daily morning commute I have seen many motorists pulled over by the CHP which will swoop down upon them after clocking them by radar going down hill!

Interstate 280 near Bunker HIll Crossing

There’s a long hill on southbound 280 as you pass Black Mountain Road in Hillsborough, the freeway goes over a big bridge and turns up under the Bunker Hill overpass. I usually come home late at night on the weekends and often see a CHP on the overpass waiting to catch speeders and drunk drivers. I ALWAYS slow to 65 and have never been pulled over there.
