San Mateo, California Speed Traps
Two motorcycle cops are sitting watching the stop sign. If you budge a second too soon, or don’t sit still the entire time a pedestrian has a toe on the pavement, they nail you. I got a citation for failing to stop for a pedestrian after I had already stopped. The pedestrian was on the other side of the street and started into the street at the same time as I started to go. Clearly, they are looking to raise funds. Cops all over. Another guy was pulled over a minute after me. Watch out!
I got a ticket in San Mateo on 3rd yesterday for alleged U-turn from one lane into parking on the opposite side of the street. Another hidden motorcycle cop. They are going wild this month amid all the cuts and layoffs on the news.
No so much of a speed trap, just a trap. Stay out of the carpool freeway entrance lane unless you’re really a carpool. Police are waiting at the light for cars entering the freeway to make sure that all cars waiting in the carpool lane are in fact carpools. I see at least 3 cars pulled to the side weekly. Happens around 4-6pm.
As you go over the hump they are waiting for you. Both ways. They get you before you can think about slowing down.
Cop sits on the corner of Oxford and Norfolk street. He waits for cars to go speeding past since this is the biggest stretch of Norfolk with no stop signs. He can get you from the North or South bound direction.
