San Mateo, California Speed Traps
Interstate 280 near US Highway 92
Northbound 280 about a mile before 92 at the vista point freeway exit which is up on a hill from 280. CHP can often be seen pointing their lasers at passing cars. You can’t really see them until you have passed the freeway entrance which is usually too late. Speed limit is 65 so slow down well before 92.
US Highway 280 near US Highway 92
Driving 280 North to San Francisco, right before (about 1-2m) you reach HWY 92, you’ll see a Vista Point exit that is *closed* with plastic pipes on the road. The EXIT of that Vista point is few hundred feet ahead and its coming down from the hill where vista point is. Thats the place I see 1-2 police cars almost every single day past 2 months. They enter closed vista point and then park at the exit of it, high above where nobody sees them. One cop usually shoots laser gun/radar at the cars below. You can easily see 2 or even 3(!) cops parked in your rear view mirror after you pass exit of that closed vista point. Basically once you pass Redwood city and hit first vista point sign (there will be 2 before HWY 92) slow down to <70. I drive from San Jose everyday around 12-2pm, I always see them. People get pulled over too.
US Highway 280 near Junipero Serra Vista Point
Cop sits on the road up to the Vista Point leading to the Junipero Serra statue, using radar to gauge the speed of cars below. There are always other patrol cars/bikes around that he radios to.
Saratoga Drive
Saratoga Dr. is between Delaware and Hillsdale Blvd and 35mph is the posted speed. Just south of the Saratoga Dr. fairgrounds entrance, is an entrance to the old horse stables. There is usually a SMPD motorcycle cop hiding there to catch southbound speeders at the PM rush hour.
State Route 92 near San Mateo-Hayward Bridge
CHP Officer on Motorcycle, on Eastbound 92 San Mateo-Hayward Bridge, on the first Emergency Parking Area, immediately after the downhill section of the span, connecting to the Trestle section, and where these large pipes arch over the road. CHP takes advantage that drivers have naturally accelerated after going downhill. Is to be seen here taking aim at speeders, weekedays around 8:30 AM.
Have seen other CHP (Motorcycle, Cars) pulling drivers over recently on the Hayward side, before the bridge, around the Clawiter Exit, Westbound, also AM Rushhour.
