Santa Cruz, California Speed Traps
State Route 17 near Sugarloaf Rd. Street
Watch out on Hwy 17, mainly northbound at Sugarloaf Rd. They sit in the dirt turnout and wait for speeders starting up that small straightaway. This is just before Glenwood Cutoff.
US Highway 1 near Dimeo Lane
CHP working area early morn and evening.
Dimeo Lane is turn off to dump.
US Highway 1 near Pescadero Road
Local sheriff will radar cars at this intersection. Have seen them hit cars going N to S on Hwy 1.
UC Santa Cruz Area Road
Out by the dorms of UC Santa Cruz, the road that leads in for the most part is 50MPH; however there is a 2-3 block residential stretch that is 25MPH. Well at night, you probably miss that info as the 25MPH sign is one of the old school ones (white letters on black sign, unless they have changed it recently) so you kind of miss it. And there’s brush growing. Granted its residential and common sense would tell you 25MPH, but its late at night and you sometimes don’t pay attention. Trust me, you don’t want the $160 ticket. But if you do want that ticket, Pizza4U traffic school is right at the hill of 17 in Scotts Valley, pretty cool, laid back and only $35 and you get pizza! PS the "cop" is actually campus police.
State Highway 1 south near Riverside Drive exit
Highway Patrol car using radar will pull over cars going over 65 on the straightaway, which is almost daily during my a.m. commute.
