Dewey and 23rd street, west of Santa Monica Airport

Santa Monica, CaliforniaSep 07, 20130 Comments

One or two motorcycle cops lurk with radar gun on Dewey (at the curve where 23rd Street becomes Walgrove Ave.) to catch motorists speeding in 25mph zone driving south down the hill on 23rd, west of Santa Monica Airport.
They are often there in the late morning.

PCH Going South into McClure Tunnel

Santa Monica, CaliforniaMay 17, 20100 Comments

As PCH south turns into the tunnel, which leads to the 10 F’way, a cop sits just before the tunnel with a radar gun. Since the speed limit is 45 mph on PCH BEFORE the tunnel he gets many who are ramping up to freeway speed in that last stretch before entering the tunnel.

Colorado and Yale

Not really a speed trap but a trap, cops hiding to catch people turning left from Colorado to Yale between 4-6pm weekdays, also for not making a complete stop at Yale and Broadway.

On Stewart (28th) Street between Olympic Blvd. and Interstate 10 Overpass.

Motorcycle cop typically sits in a asphalt driveway for a commercial building on west side of Stewart between Exhibition and just north of Delaware. There is a tall green “tennis” fence that blocks view of him and creates a shadow making him very hard to see. Patrol car also frequently sits on Delaware facing Stewart (facing west) in the last spot next to Stewart. This is a 4-way stop. You will be stopped for rolling through the stop sign at Delaware and Stewart or Virginia and Stewart (or Both, if you are really having a bad day!). You will also be popped for loud music or speed (35mph+ will get you a ticket). I work near here, so I see it all day nearly every day. Stewart is a major corridor for police vehicles-they fill up their tanks at a yard on Stewart. Good Luck!
