Motorcycle cop sits on the corner of Fairoaks / Arques A&W Fast Food parking lot. Sits in the driveway with radar between 8AM – 8:30 AM M-F. There is stop light so he catches red light violations and speeding.

Elko Street near Lawrence Expressway

Going on Lawrence from 101 toward 237, make a right on Elko at Chevron Gas Station. Speed limit is 25mph, and the cop with motorcyle is about 200ft from the speed limit sign on the right waiting for you during lunch time.

Central Expressway near Lawrence Expressway

Motorcycle cop sits in the parking lot of a building just on the cloverleaf going eastbound on Central Expressway on the southbound exit to Lawrence. Speed limit is 50 here, however most everyone goes 60-65. I was pegged at 69 passing up a car that was going 45. He blends in well with the environment, and as you are coming out of a long bend you don’t see him until it is too late.

Wolfe Road near Elizabeth Way

Sunnyvale, CaliforniaJun 15, 20040 Comments

Be vary cautious when driving down Wolfe Rd. Wolfe Rd is a very commonly used route to get to highway US-101 and I-280. The streets are densly populated with homes which make intersections obstructed.

I have personally seen Motorcycle police units lurking at these obstructed corners aiming their radar guns at oncoming traffic. Please be cautious where Wolfe intersects Elizabeth Way and the other intersection where Wolfe Road intersects Marion Way.

Lastly, there is a vacant area of land located at the big intersection at El Camino and Wolfe diagonally across the Shell station where police car unit like to hide and watch for speeders and redlight runners.

There is an occasional speed trap by the Sunnyvale City PD on Wolfe Road between Elizabeth Way and Homestead Road. I travel on that street many times and the police are usually there during morning commute hours (8-11AM). They are usually in operation during the 1st week and the last week of a month (ticket quotas).

Wolfe Road is 4 lane (2 per direction and is a main thoroughfare thru Sunnyvale as it connects to the 101 Freeway and the 280 Freeway in a straight line. It is crowded during morning and afternoon commute as workers from the 101/280 freeways use it to get to the local businesses like Applied Materials, HP, and Intel facilities.

There are apartment/duplexes on Wolfe Road, and the police, usually motorcycle, will hide in the driveways of the duplexes, behind buildings, to catch speeders. I have a Valentine One radar detector and it sometimes goes off when I travel on the road. Speed limit is 35 but some (including myself) have gone 50 on the road.

One time, when I was commuting to work, I was going about 40 in the right lane when my detector went off. I slowed down to 35MPH. There was a car behind me and I guess he got impatient at me going too slow so he changed lanes and sped up to pass me. He got ahead of me, got back into the lane I was in, then got nailed as a motorcycle cop jumped out of the driveway and hit his lights for a ticket. Wish I could have signed the driver that there was a cop using radar in the area.
