State Highway 99

Turlock, CaliforniaApr 01, 20070 Comments

Radar enforcement has climbed recently on HWY 99 Between Ceres and Turlock on 99. Lately there has been solid white CHP car with a clear lightbar. Only the side doors are marked with a CHP emblem. The solid white car frequently sits on the side of the road and shoots from his foward and rear mounted radar guns. Units appear to be Stalker DSR’s operating at 34.7 Ghz. As the weather is becoming warmer, be aware of the CHP motorcycle units. There are 3 assigned to the Modesto division. They are marked black and white BMW’s, also equiped with radar. Also traveling northbound on 99 around 0715 ive frequently seen a black and white police motorcycle that takes the Mitchell Rd. offramp and goes into Modesto via Mitchell road. Motorcycle is almost always using a mounted radar unit operating at 35.5 Ghz. I have not seen any Lidar (Laser) use in the area yet, but I would be on alert for it.

In the vicinity of Turlock, the entire stretch of highway that is 3 lanes (each direction) is regularly patrolled from the air. CHP also uses their "unmarked cars" here. These cars lack the roof-mounted lights and bumper-mounted push bars, and are not painted the traditional black-and-white. I have seen all-white, blue-and-white, yellow-and-white, and tan-and-white. I understand they come in other colors, too. They all have white doors with the emblem on it, so they meet the definition of a traffic enforcement vehicle, so beware. VERY hard to spot in your rear-view.

California Highway Patrol hide behind the Big Rigs at the Rest stop located at the end of Turlock, CA (coming from North) or at the beginning of Turlock (coming from South). They use Both Instant on Ka and Constant On Ka. My cousin said once at 4:00am he received a "POP" alert on his Radar Detector. So also beware of that. The CHP are almost always on traffic coming from the South (Delhi, Livingston Direction). Speed limit is 65 and strictly enforced.
