Vista, California Speed Traps
S. Santa Fe Road near Monte Vista / Mar Vista Drive
Motorcycle Officers park in the parking lot at the Mortuary and aim their speed guns to the north for cars coming towards Mar Vista Drive. They have even been know to catch those coming from the south, heading towards Monte Vista Drive. Watch your speed, it is 40 mph there and very easy to go over that.
Vista Way near Super China Buffet
While driving on Vista Way from Bobier toward the 78, I have seen a motorcycle officer come out of the drive way into Super China Buffet to pull people over, and he gets someone every time the light changes. I got pulled over for doing 50 through that 35 zone without even noticing I was doing it. Same with everyone else that they pull over.
Osborne Street near Stockton Lane
Usually a CHP car sits parked on the wide area of pavement next to the church in the 800 block. Sometimes they wait for mid day traffic, close to noon. A motorcycle also works this one, sometimes here and other times about 100 yards west on Osborne Terrace. The road is posted 35, but a traffic survey would probably place it closer to 45.
La Mirada Drive near Las Flores Drive
La Mirada Drive heading towards Rancho Santa Fe Rd…there is a very steep hill and on the part going down (19% grade) the speed limit is 15, then it goes to 25 as it levels off a bit. At the bottom of the hill a bunch of cops on bikes are often waiting at lunchtime to line people up and nail them for speeding down the hill.
Shadowridge Dr, between Melrose and Sycamore
I live off of this road so I see people getting tickets all the time. There is a hilly section, five lanes wide, with a posted limit of 40MPH (and 35MPH closer to Sycamore.) Very easy to speed here, and the cops know it. Common to see motorcycle cops poised on the sidestreets along this stretch. I’m guessing they are using radar, but my radar detector hasn’t picked them up yet so i’m not sure. Keep it at 45 or less.
