East of Zlaten Drive on Ken Pratt Boulevard (Weld County)

Traffic chicane (pavement diversion) over Spring Gulch, presumably created to slow traffic in a construction zone from 55 mph to 45 mph, is overextended going eastbound at the reduced speed where “speeders” are stopped and ticketed. No actual work zone exists in late August 2014 other than well beneath the westbound highway where a pedestrian tunnel and greenway is being built alongside Spring Gulch. This project does not create any hazard at all from the traffic above. Greenway construction workers and equipment are located well below the elevation of the highway. Also, a continuous concrete barrier in the center of the diversion completely isolates eastbound traffic from the work zone downhill from westbound traffic. The speed trap affects eastbound traffic. Work on the highway itself to repair recent flood damage is postponed.

CO-119 (Ken Pratt Blvd.) between County Line Rd. and WCR-5

Construction zone up in order to continue rebuilding the road after the Sept. 2013 floods. Speed limit drops to 45mph, as it should because of a sharp chicane in the road, but it stays 45mph for quite a while after you clear the construction. Only apparent reason for the artificially low speed limit is to appease the half-dozen Weld County Sheriff and Colorado State Patrol cars you’ll see waiting to nail you as you accelerate back up to 65.

3rd Ave between Sunset & Hover

Starting near the West end of Sunset Golf Course and sitting on the side roads between there an Hover watching for folks coming down the hill. It’s a 25 and plenty of folks go 40 so it’s pretty profitable for them.

There is an empty dirt parking lot where a gas station used to be. I see the police there all the time. Also, they park in a small parking lot just south of the 711 next to the Retirement Home at night time.

The cops are sitting at or near the Flower Bin or further east on Nelson at the next business parking lot.
