Anywhere along Hwy. 160 between Alamosa and Monte Vista

Monte Vista, ColoradoMay 05, 20100 Comments

This is a trap courtesy of the CSP. This is the worst stretch of highway in the country, and I have been across the country several times. This highway is so poorly designed. You have people going under the posted limit frequently or large trucks that are going slowly, and no place to pass around them most of the way. People get desparate to get around slowpokes and take chances. The CSP IS watching. I was told recently by a Monte Vista city employee that the CSP can and does stop people for going 1 mile over the limit.

North on 285 from intersection of 285 and 160 downtown

As you go north on 285 from the intersection by the Dairy Queen, the speed limit is 25. There is regularly someone pulled over there. At times, I see cars pulled over numerous days in a row and coming into and leaving work some days.

US Highway 160

Traveling west into Monte Vista, the 65 MPH speed drops to a posted 50 MPH speed limit right before the Monte Vista Co-Op, which then almost immediately drops again to a 35 MPH speed limit, and then a 25 MPH speed right after that. The police are quick to stop any and all violaters. The police actually seem to be overly protective of their town, so be cautious of your speed in Monte Vista, Colorado!
