Morrison, Colorado Speed Traps
As you go west up the hill out of town on Hwy 74 there is a speed trap right before Red Rocks entrance. 25 mph is totally ridiculous on that stretch. There are no buildings or pedestrian crossings. Speed limit should realistically be at least 40. They got me going 41 in a 25. $135 ticket. They are making a killing by gouging people for no reason so beware!
Always see stops in early morning (5:30 – 7:30 AM) just after a reduce speed ahead to 45, and then very close to that a 45mph speed limit sign. This is after a long run of 65mph and/or entering westbound from Morrison. The signage seems suspiciously convenient for catching newbies. There are some tight corners and sharp turn exits afterwards but they do have their own signs. Even if you know he is there it is easy to be over 45 when you get clocked.
Local police sit off the highway on the westbound side of I-470 with a laser gun. Speed limit on I-470 is 65 – which no one obeys. If you are just keeping up with the commuter traffic, the cop will pick you out of the crowd and issue an expensive citation. This is obviously not a safety issue. I-470 bypasses all of Morrison proper, and this is clearly a way for Morrison to make money.
Downhill 45 to 25 adjacent to Red Rocks entrance.
They are abusive to say the least. Avoid Morrison Colorado.
This is a curvy canyon entering/leaving the foothills. At least 50% of the time I drive through there will be a police car either writing a ticket or using the radar gun. I have seen as many as 4 police cars at one time in this 2 mile stretch. Speed limit is 45.
