Pueblo, Colorado Speed Traps
State Patrol and County Sheriff use the south end of the truckstop parking lot as a staging area while the small single engine plane clocks your speed. They can clock 3-5 vehicles at a time. State law states that the officer in the plane "does not" have to land to issue the ticket for it to be valid. Drive safe!
One stationary officer lasers multiple vehicles, radios results to 2-3 "chase cars" that pursue and issue citations, which introduces hearsay defense. Operation results in numerous 20+ violations because of decrease in speed limit of 75 to speed limit of 55 over 1 mile. Zero tolerance-you are zapped just as you cross the 55mph sign, maybe even before in 65 zone, then cited for 55 violation.
The sherriff’s department deploys in various locations, in the vicinity of the speed limit change from 45 mph to 30 mph, North bound towards U.S. Hwy 50, mainly in the parking lots of various businesses, on the West side of Purcell. There is often cross traffic in this location, hence the need for reduced speed, however the transition from 45 to 30 is quite abrupt. Stay alert!
