Villa Avenue near Brooklawn Avenue

Fairfield, ConnecticutDec 22, 20040 Comments

Older residential area. Villa Avenue posted at 25, but 85th percentile speed might easily be 35-40 absent the well-known enforcement on this road. Fairfield PD is known to have as many as 4 cars teamed up for speed enforcement on a 1/4 mile stretch of Villa Avenue between Brooklawn Avenue and the Villa Avenue car wash. Road makes a shallow turn which allows for radar unit to trap those who come down the straightaway prior to the turn. Real nasty trap, particularly when it is set up at 5:45 AM to catch morning commuters. All the locals know about this one!

Black Rock Turnpike near Rolling Ridge Road

Fairfield, ConnecticutJun 09, 20040 Comments

This trap will be set up at one of three locations.
First: On Black Rock Turnpike between the forked ends of Rolling Ridge Road.
Second: A little bit farther (a few dozen feet) toward the Parkway. There is a small area, I believe it’s a service area for phone company equipment (gray box.) Any police car, either marked or unmarked, will be almost completely invisible due to the tree cover between the spot and the streetlight.
Third: Tequoshe Pl.

I frequently see pairs working this one, with one car at either the first or second spot, and the other at Tequoshe.

This one gets _really_ busy right before end-of-month quotas are due in, and busy to a lesser extent before middle-of-month quotas.

Route 15 NB between exit 47 – 48

Fairfield, ConnecticutOct 29, 20020 Comments

I have not seen anyone pulled over here, however, there is usually a trooper waiting just past the rest stop on the right either on an onramp median or a clearing between trees.

Route 1 "Post Road" at Mill Hill Road

Fairfield, ConnecticutMay 01, 20010 Comments

This trap is most dangerous for those traveling in the North/East direction, although I received a speeding ticket here traveling in the other direction. The road at this point opens up and becomes like a highway for a short distance. The speed limit is 35 mph but most cars travel at about 50 mph. Watch out coming over the Metro-North railroad bridge.

Villa Avenue

Fairfield, ConnecticutJan 01, 20010 Comments

When I say "moderate" enforcement, this is probably an understatement. Fairfield Police Department has an almost constant presence on Villa Avenue from 5:45 am to 8 am, Mondays through Fridays. This town street is used for commuters who live on the north end of Bridgeport to access Interstate 95 southbound. Fairfield PD knows this and will often have 3 cruisers assigned to this street. As an NMA life member, I know the difference between routine enforcement and what actually constitutes a trap. This one is a legitimate trap, particularly for westbound drivers. There is a curve in the road…the radar unit parks immediately behind a large bush along the curve. Chase cars are parked ahead.
