Newark, Delaware Speed Traps
Under the overpass at Hwy 273 and I-95
I see a cop a couple times a week, as I go down the ramp from Hwy 273 on to I-95 south. He sits under the overpass catching people speeding excessively on I-95 south. Most use the lightly marked SUV’s instead of the regular patrol car.
West Chestnut Hill Road near 896 Intersection
Classic speed trap – speed limit changes from 40 to 35 to 25 very quickly. the cop is hidden and gets you as you come around the curve.
The beginning of Paper Mill Road out of Newark.
Heading out of Newark on N. Chapel or turning from E. Cleveland Ave. The Newark Police will sit across the White Clay Creek beyond the bridge at the bottom of the hill obscured by trees. The hill makes it easy to exceed the 25 mph speed limit and although the road widens, it stays 25 for another 1/4 mile or so until it increases to 35. They’ll getcha coming the other way as well if you don’t slow down.
896 at the bridge by the old Chrysler Plant and Ag Hall
Police are parked on the road that leads to the train station on the Chrysler side of the road. They are using radar on the cars as they come down the bridge (speed limit is still 25 at that point).
