South Bethany, Delaware Speed Traps
State Route 1 near Near the McDonalds
Primarily intended to catch motorists headed north from Ocean City Maryland into Delaware. The speed limit drops from 55 to 35 in a short distance. This is evidently a huge revenue operation for the police, since it’s in operation about 18-20 hours per day, 7 days a week in the summer, 2-3 patrol cars continually.
Ocean Hwy aka Coastal Hwy aka State Route 1
The South Bethany Police have increased registration and criminal interdiction efforts on the highway. There are still a few cops who write speeding tickets, but definitely not as much as in the past. Usually when you see the cops sitting in the median right next to the traffic lane, they are running tags. For speed enforcement, they run moving and stationary RADAR. They can even get you going in the same direction in moving mode. They use the Stalker RADAR units with dual antennas. Sometimes (usually in the summer) they set up LIDAR in the median at the south end of town. The cops are out in the open in this town, so you can’t miss them! They even have new signs posted about heavy traffic enforcement. Delaware law recently changed that forces local governments to put up high visibility enforcement signs.
