Bonita Springs, Florida Speed Traps
police car set at unpaved part of East terry with radar also watches for full stop at stop sign.
LCSO parks in the Advanced Auto Parts parking lot, especially at night – they radar cars heading southbound over the Imperial River Bridge on 41. The zone is a 50 MPH and there is a traffic signal in front of the Advanced Auto – Publix is on the other side. There is no street name given for the light but it appears to be Boston Road.
LCSO crusisers and SUVs park in the beach accesses (especially those closer to the mainland entrance to the island). Speed limit is a 35 MPH on the road (changed from 40 a couple years back) – they are out random nights of the week.
Policeman with a radar gun stands on the east side of the road by the bushy area looking south. There is usually 2 or 3 other officers in cars that make chase.
When going either east of west on Bonita Beach Road where it turns into Hickory Boulevard between the mainland and Little Hickory Island, a police vehicle will occasionally sit on the north side of the road clocking vehicles coming and going over the bridge. This bridge is a 40 mph zone but frequently sees vehicles going in excess of 60 mph+ and was the scene of a traffic fatility recently (Dec. ’03). Please be careful as this is a gateway to the Bonita and Fort Myers beaches and keep near the limit as their are lots of unfamiliar and/or careless tourists who will change lanes and speeds without warning due to the lane reduction past the bridge.
