Cocoa, Florida Speed Traps
Cocoa PD park their motorcycles behind the landscaping to set the trap.
Police hide behind or between semi-trucks parked on the right side of the right-of-way. Location is northbound Grissom Parkway, west of Industry road intersection. They use both cars and motorcycles. Cocoa is in finiancial trouble and is desperate for revenue.
At least once a week on Friday road, north of SR 520 and south of 524 they lurk under trees or in driveways. Sometimes one and as many as 6 of them clearing off the road of almost everyone coming down it. They like to work it mainly in the mornings up to about lunchtime.
The speed limit used to be 45 but over a couple of years they slipped it down to 25 so they could enhance the county revenue.
Cocoa PD runs the radar on Sunday mornings when the traffic is light and easy to excede the posted 45mph on a divided 4 lane major highway. They work all of US #1 within the city limits setting up in front of different business.
Speed limit drops from 70 to 55 for east bound traffic as it approches US #1 on SR 528. Cocoa PD parks just beyond the bridge mainly on Sundays when the traffic is light with as many as 4 cars and writes numerous tickets. I have never been stopped so I cannot tell you what the breaking point above the limit really is.
