Crystal River, Florida Speed Traps
On US19 between the C.R. Mall & the Days Inn heading north.
There are always Citrus County Deputies tucked in every possible hiding spot within this 3-5 mile stretch. Also, at any given time there are usually (2) two deputies awaiting prospects in the median. They are ruthless too. (5) five miles an hour over is grounds for a pullover. I believe Citrus County has more patrol men per capita than any other in our entire nation. I work at the power plant a few miles north of this speed trap area, and believe me, I can attest to these words. SLOW DOWN through Crystal River! Trust Me!!! JMB

Citrus Avenue West Driving into Downtown
When driving west into downtown Crystal River, the speed limit drops from 55mph to 45mph right before the traffic signal at Turkey Oak. Sheriffs like to sit on all four sides of this intersection and watch for cars running the red light–they also often have radar pointed east on Citrus to catch drivers that have not slowed down to 45mph.
On down Citrus Avenue the speed limit changes again, from 45mph to 30mph. Sheriffs like to sit with radar in businesses and even churches on both sides of the road. A favorite spot is in the parking lot of the doctor’s office on the left, where they stop speeders within 50 feet of where the speed limit changes.
There are two churches in this area, and two pedestrian crosswalks. They watch this area closely, especially on the weekends, when there are a lot of tourists visiting stores and restaurants in this area–and really make a killing during church hours when the area is crowded.
