the Crystal River police like to sit in the auto parts store parking lot next to burger king and across from the dry cleaners at night… they are rather hard to see

I travel this road daily to get to my job and there are often times officers giving tickets. Heading north on HWY 19 past the mall the speed limit used to be 55 mph. This was changed a few years ago to 45 mph to around 1.5 miles past the mall. This is a 4 lane divided highway and is out in the open so one would think it would be a normal speed limit of 60 mph but it is not. Use caution here because many people I work with have been given speeding tickets for just 6 to 8 mph over which will typically NOT give you a ticket elsewhere in the county. This is being done by local Crystal River police officers and not the highway patrol. Just go the speed limit in this area until you get into Crystal River (going south) and until you are at the actual 60 mph speed limit going north. Once you see the 60 mph speed limit sign, I have not seen any speed traps beyond that point.

I have had 3 traffic tickets in the last 27 years, all in Crystal River. One for no seat belt. One for taillight out. One for doing 38 in a 35 mph zone. These are 3 separate incidents within 2 years. I live 280 miles from this town and go through there twice a year. All tickets were issued in the wee hours of the morning. How do you see a passing vehicle has a driver without a seat belt in the pitch dark?? It’s a rip off town. I won’t even buy gas there anymore. Nor will I patronise the restaurants or stores!! Avoid this rip-off town if at all possible!
