They tag you just as you are starting to drive into the concrete tunnel that is the Woodward underpass. Eight mile road is a 6-lane highway there, and people naturally speed up because there are no sidewalks, businesses, intersecting roads, or dangers of any kind during a long stretch. They pull you over well after you drive through the tunnel, which is confusing since by then you naturally slow down to deal with the reappearance of driveways, intersections, and sidewalks. The 85th percentile speed would probably be closer to 55 mph in that stretch if the city was honest. But the limit is 40 mph.
