Key Largo, Florida Speed Traps
North bound on US 1 leaving Key Largo approaching the bridge
As you depart Key Largo you go around an easy left handed curve and approach a ramp for a high bridge. Speed limit is 45mph. State police position themselves where they can radar measure your speed as you come around this curve. They also position themselves on the other side of this same bridge just past the on ramp merge lane to catch cars that pass on the right to get ahead of slower traffic.
mm106 northbound US1 Key Largo
Especially early, early morning, (like 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.). Usually FHP, but sometimes MCSO. They sit in their cruisers like vultures… using ‘instant-on’ radar guns. Your radar detector, (no matter how good/new), won’t help here, UNLESS they ‘shoot’ the guy in front of you and your detector picks that up. The only @!#!* solution is to drive no faster than 50 mph from mm105 to Circle K gas station. Then, as previously noted, they sit on the N. Bound side of bridge, zapping you as you crest the hill.

**CLIMAX OF THE BRIDGE** This seems to be the cherry pie of speed traps due to the major construction going on. They will wait on the northbound side of the bridge and shoot their radar/guns toward the tip of the bridge waiting for someone to go over 45 MPH. Don’t let that 55 MPH sign 200 ft from them fool you, they’ve will remind you were on the bridge at the time of the ticket. 45 MPH on the bridge!!!
US Highway 1 near Mile Marker 120 to 105
Heavy enforcement at both ends, and in between, of a 15 mile construction zone. New bridge, and road widening.
Speed limit is 45 to 35 MPH.
Gasparilla Drive near Mile Marker 98.5
15 mile and speed limit after coming directly off US 1 at 45 miles and hour, local police hide cars in drive ways of a private home. Unrealistic especially at the end of the month, revenue time
