Interlake west of the circle

Lake Placid, FloridaMar 16, 20100 Comments

Police sit at the crest of the hill looking for speeders in the school zone. The speed limit through town and around the circle is 30mph, but when you exit the circle, it drops immediately to 20mph during school hours. Yes, there is a school-zone sign with flashing lights, but it sits high on a post, and during the afternoon, you round the curve and have the sun in your eyes. And if you drop the sunvisor, it blocks out the sign and lights due to their height. The fine is close to $300…I know. The sign is at that height for an obvious reason…so you don’t see it. This is especially applicable to out-of-town drivers who are not familiar with the school zone.

US Highway 27 near Tower Street

Lake Placid, FloridaJan 08, 20080 Comments

When heading south from Sebring on US 27, after you gone under the overpass and up the hill, you will go from 65 mph, down to 50mph and then finally once you are almost in front of the Publix shopping center, it is 45mph, the police sit in the meadian early in the morning before day break, usually faced toward the north bound lanes, but sometimes faced toward the south bound. They are there quite often.
