Midway & Birchcrest Blvd

Port Charlotte, FloridaDec 06, 20100 Comments

Midway is closed at Birchcrest Blvd end, making it a T intersection. on the weekend the cops sit behind the Big Barriers and watch for people with no seatbelts. Usually 2-3 squad cars and officers standing with flashlight… Beware… They are handing out tickets like free popcicles

Marked units hide in church parking lot at night, speed limit goes from 40 to 25 within a very short distance right before Elkam turn lane. Word is they don’t give warnings, only citations, and with double fines whether workers are present or not. Seems to be a cash cow for the county.

There is road construction in just few places and it is occuring off the road, behind concrete barriers. However, it has been decided that it is necessary to reduce the speed to 25 mph, and in some places 15 mph. Well, in the 7 years I’ve lived here, I’ve never seen such traffic enforcement. Every day, there is a cruiser parked (usually across from the Middle School- which, of course, is not in session- hidden behind dormant construction equipment.) The Sherrif’s Office is really cashing in on Midway’s construction!

Kings Highway for one and Veterns for the second one

I am retired from Federal Law Enforcement after thirty three years and what I see in Charlotte county with the Sheriffs department is an absolute disgrace. A marked police car just by its presence is a deterrent to speeding or any other traffic violation. I have seen officers hiding their patrol cars on Kings Highway, Veterns, Peachland, and Loveland and shooting radar. This is nothing more than a shakedown by the Sheriffs department and the County for money. I find their actions to be disgraceful and a abuse of the badge and office that all of us should hold in high regard. I am 65 years old and have never had any violations on my driving record which started when I was 14 years old. Not real good management.
