Saint Petersburg, Florida Speed Traps
275 N between 38th ave on ramp and off ramp
FHP parks on hill and gets people going N bound on 275.
46th Ave North and 46th Street North
They have added a 4 way stop sign to this intersection, unmarked police cars and pick up trucks will park in the large vacant lot on the Northwest corner of the intersection (sometimes next to vehicles for sale) and peg the stop sign runners or individuals that didnt come to a complete stop.
Major St. Petersburg Intersections
This is less a speed trap warning than a safety “heads up” for visitors. Police in St. Petersburg DO NOT waste time ticketing red light runners. Therefore red light running is epidemic. Locals know that, if you’re first out on a green light, you have to look. Major intersections are dangerous because a fresh red light is just a suggestion. Someone will run the light. Installation of red light cameras is in the talking stage. In the meantime, be careful.
Tyrone Blvd West of the Mall past the overpass
They sit in a ford ranger in the Service Road on Tyrone Blvd heading West past the mall. They usually tag the folks going West but will also get the ones going East.
4th St. North, just north of Gandy Blvd.
Coming south on 4th St. North, the speed limit drops rapidly from 55 mph to 40 mph approaching Gandy. This is on a four lane road. I know several people who’ve been surprised by this quick speed reduction and have found the police waiting for them.
