Old Mill Rd (2 locations) and Etowah Dr

Cartersville must be trying to raise revenue. Recently, lots of cops sitting on the east end of Old Mill across from the Shaw office, as well as on the west end by the apartment complexes. Also, a mustachioed officer on a motorcycle sitting behind the bushes at the entrance of Town and Country Dr, using a radar gun on cars traveling toward Dellinger Park. watch out!

Interstate 75 Expressway near State Route 113

Cartersville, GeorgiaJul 28, 20080 Comments

Saturday Morning (not M-F commute) Not sure how often.

Oh boy, this one’s a dozy. You have radar detector/laser jammers? This cop knows! No, you aren’t 100% safe from radar even on these 3 lanes of interstate.

I-75 SOUTHBOUND exit 288 ‘Cartersville’. Cop is on the ONRAMP to I-75 South. He is shooting handheld Ka Radar Instant-On (I/O), at the REAR of southbound vehicles after you pass under the bridge.

As you approach exit 288 southbound, the road is curving to the right, and the exit ramp goes up-hill to ‘East Main St’ aka Hwy 113, cop is on the other side of this hill on the on-ramp…this "Hill & Curve" helps block his radar from your detector…also he is not aiming at oncoming traffic, he is aiming at the rear of vehicles after they pass him.
There are also a few clumps of trees on the onramp he uses for cover.

We saw it coming North-bound. A flash of Ka and then nothing…then another stronger flash, then nothing…then full on Ka blast and we finally spotted him tagging southbound vehicles from their rear.

If you are going southbound, your only hope is to get that narrow Ka beam to bounce backwards off a car in front of you….see, after we passed him going northbound, we got no more Ka alerts (but that’s all the way across the median etc)…thus, if you’re going southbound, around that overpass’s embankment, it’s gonna be hard to pick up a signal:
1) his beam is not pointed towards you,
2) the scatter is blocked by the hill. Basically this trap is the perfect storm.

As you pass under the Exit 288 Hwy 113 overpass, glance to the right, you’ll see trees and maybe a cop’s Dodge Charger (GSP I believe). Standing outside the car with handheld Ka radar.

Maybe you’ll get lucky and get a ‘blip’ of I/O Ka bouncing off a car in front before he nails you.

These newer radars have special features – ‘Same Lane’ and ‘Fastest Speed’.

1st, they can block out incoming traffic and only display outgoing traffic (or visa versa).

2nd they can display ‘Fastest Vehicle’ nowadays, so no more excuse that he got the speed of a larger vehicle than yours. Only the fastest will display….and he can spot which vehicle is the fastest.

These two features are allowing cops to continue using I/O radar on big multi-lane highways. Yikes!

Bottom line: Get a Valentine 1 RD. Turn off X band. Turn off POP. Increase Ka sensitivity. On the highway use ‘A’ mode. And if you see a flash of Ka, JAM THE BRAKES! The only good thing here is, there aren’t any False Ka alearts, treat all Ka as a cop. ;-P

Oh, one more thing…you can maybe see him as you pass perpendicular to him…and he’s not targeting vehicles until the end of the on-ramp….so if you stay alert and/or have a good co-driver, youll stand a decent chance here.

But at night, if youre the only car out..watch out! GSP has your number on I-75 south at exit 288 Cartersville!

You can see everything on Google Maps "Street View".

Main Street near Exit Number 288

Cartersville, GeorgiaSep 12, 20070 Comments

When exiting I-75 at Exit 288 and heading into Cartersville on what becomes Main Street, the speed limit is posted at 45. There is a hill you go up after you exit, and on the downside of the hill, the police will run radar at the new Chili’s and IHOP and catch people who have sped up to pass slow trucks on the hill. The good news is that they usually put out an electronic speed tracker for a few days before they step up patrolling the area. Just restrain yourself as you crest the hill, and you should be okay.
