Dawson, Georgia Speed Traps

The speed limits change constantly on this highway. And when you’re traveling long distances, you will most likely keep your cruise control on. I was pulled over for going 61 in a 45. The speed limit had just dropped from 65mph to 45mph and I had my cruise control on. So, I took my cruise control off like i was suppose to. And instead of breaking, I thought I could just cruise and lower my speed slowly. Man was I wrong! Pulled me over and gave me a ticket. But on my ticket, he said that I was going 61 in a 40. He lied on my ticket because he knew I was from out of state and most likely wouldn’t be able to travel back to Georgia to contest it. Be careful if you are driving through this awful city!

Dawson Police stoppped a car that blocked one lane at intersection of 520/Randolph St.; police car pulled behind and blocked the other lane of Randolph Street effectively blocking the whole road, with cars waiting to go onto 520. The policeman left his car blocking the road to go to the window of the stopped car. One car on Randolph St. had to turn around in the road to take a different route. As it was trying to turn around a truck came off 520, drove over the curb behind the police car in his way, turned onto Randolph St. and almost plowed into the car that was turning around. All because the police had the speeding ticket as his priority. Traffic that should have been able to move was completely halted, with a near accident, because of the blocked lanes that should have been open. This city has become obsessed with stopping drivers all day every day. It is nearly impossible to go through Dawson without seeing several cars stopped. It has developed into a serious speed trap.

The absolute worst speed trap on this route is Dawson,GA. I drive this
way often. Every trip I am blinded by multiple blue lights of police
cars stopping people trying to get through this town.
I post this notice on your site hoping, it will warn the unwary of this
situation,and hope someone on the state level will put a end to it.

Highway 520 goes from Columbus GA. to Burnswick, GA. Every small town
along this route has its own trap. However the worst of worst is Dawson,
GA. Two and three cops patrol this strip and make endless stops every
day.They boost your fines by adding anything they can find. Do your best to
get through this road without getting stopped. The state of Georgia should do
something to put an end to this.

Stopped going south on 520. Cop going north makes u turn across
4 lanes of traffic. Stopped and told I was not wearing a seat belt.
I am sitting in my car with my seat belt on. Cop then proceeds
ask for my insurance card, which I have . This is nothing more
than illegal stop searching for reason to give some one a ticket.
This can be observed all day long going through Dawson Ga.
It is racket and a nuisance that needs to come a end.
