State Highway 29

East Point, GeorgiaMar 27, 20060 Comments

Highway 29 (Main Street) north and south of the Harold Sheets Parkway overpass. Police will often sit at the unmarked brick MARTA building just under the bridge, or in the Alignment and Frame Co. parking lot. Posted limit is 40, safe limit is closer to 60. Also watch for police sitting in the emtpy parking lot about a mile north of this site, just below the gas station. They’re looking for high speed traffic coming south on 29 but will also bust anyone coming north around the blind curve.

Interstate 285 West/North in Henry County, just outside Atlanta city limits

East Point, GeorgiaApr 15, 20030 Comments

The speed limit abruptly and with no warning drops from 70 to 55. The signage is not visible from the inside lanes. There are always eight to twelve patrol cars in this area.

The judge actively encourages a plea of no lo contendre, which means no contest. If you do this, you have to pay the fine, but there are no points added to your license. He never finds for the defendant if he/she pleads not guilty, and the courts charge you a non-refundable $500 fee if you want to appeal his decision. The last sheriff in this county was recently sent to prison for corruption, so the judge is suspect.

The officers often increase the actual speed that you were driving when writing the ticket, and the fines start at $360.
