US Alt 27 from GA 362 into town

Greenville, GeorgiaOct 02, 20030 Comments

This area has long been known by area residents as a speedtrap and is ideally suited for it with numerous excessively restrictive and constantly decreasing speed limit signs posted far out of town on a straight downhill stretch of road. Any driver who is not totally paranoid about his speed will always be 5-10 mph over the limit. This speedtrap now appears to have possibly turned into a bait, setup and frame operation which targets lone drivers without passengers who might be able to corroborate the drivers word against that of multiple police units who converge on the one driver. Recently my mom was stopped in just such a way when she had not even had sufficient time after turning onto Alt 27 to do anything wrong. Two police cars boxed her in followed by three more cars flying past with lights flashing. This kind of intimidation leads one to believe that the police might have been trying to invoke nervousness to be used as cause for further inquiry or search. The outcome might have been very different if it had not been for a cousin following behind who stopped and proceeded to give the police the nth degree for stopping my mom with no good reason at all. On seeing that they could not get away with any misdeeds, the police backed off immediately and told all to be on their way. The police of this very rural town evidently lack anything better to do.
