I85 near the GA/SC Border

Hartwell, GeorgiaJul 27, 20140 Comments

Hartwell, Ga. police are now setting traps on I85 1 to 2 miles from the GA/SC border. They are giving tickets even if you are going the speed limit. They seem to favor the Ga. Move Over Law as it’s a $500 fine. They will sit on the side of the HWY with lights on waiting for a car to drive by in the slow lane (right lane). If you fail to move over to the pass / fast lane (left lane) they will pull you over regardless if the lane was occupied or unsafe to move over. They know most of the traffic is out of state so no one will bother to fight the ticket.

Hartwell Dam

Anywhere close to the dam where there are the trails and roads branching off U.S. 29. Starting where the trees are, and going all the way to the bridge. I got pulled over by a State Trooper around 8:45 ish so it was dark- never even saw them, or I just thought they were people pulled off to talk or something. One trooper was pointed each way so they could get anyone leaving Hart County or coming into Hart County. Word to the wise just do the speed limit when it’s dark. And be aware of the “Super Speeder” fine in GA.

East Franklin Street (Closed down Gas Station)

Hartwell PD LOVE to set up here after 6 p.m. Its right across from where the speed limit drops form 45 to 25mph. They Back up next to the building where they are virtually invisible. Worst one is Capt. Stan Sayer in his Chevrolet Trailblazer K-9 unit. He especially targets women.

Athens Street

During the day and night, officers park in the yard at 497 Athens Street and run radar back toward the city limit sign. As you come around the curve coming into Hartwell, they are 540 feet smiling at you in a 25 MPH HISTORIC ZONE.

They are difficult to see.

Cleveland Avenue

Limit is 25, and an certain officer hides beside the business Lewis Lumber waiting on people. It is a school zone, so you have to be careful!
