On a small road heading through town

Hiltonia, GeorgiaJun 27, 20230 Comments

Like many others have stated, there are cops waiting to pull you over as they know the speed limit drops faster than you can change speed. The speed limit signs change so fast that you don’t have time to change speeds before they pull you over. They gave me a ticket for going 68 in a 40. I wasn’t going nearly that fast as the previous speed limit sign was 55mph. Please avoid this town at all costs. My ticket fine is currently listed as $550! The “convenience” fee is $55 for a grand total of $605! This is by far the most expensive citation that I have ever received in my life! Reroute your gps to avoid this town at all costs! If not, you will get pulled over, as they will lie about your speed so they can get more money.

As you crest the hill – Eastbound – into Hiltonia

HILTONIA, GA
The signs are there. It goes from 55 to 50 to 40. I just missed the last 2 when I was headed Eastbound on 24. Country Roads can be a little boring and all look alike. Once the scenery changes, usually the speed limit changes. Hiltonia will sneak up on you. The town is very, very small (population – just over 400) and, until you see the buildings, you may not know you are in their small town. Once I saw the buildings and the 40 mph sign, I hit my brakes, but by that time, the officer was already pulling out to pull me over.

There is one thing that you can count on in Hiltonia. There will be one or two police officers located on the side of the road with their speed detection devices in the ON position. They are always there! If you don’t believe me, check it out on Google maps – Streetview. There, you will find one of their older cars. They have since upgraded to newer SUV’s.

Most of the time, they are pointed at Eastbound traffic – but not always. I have driven through many of these small GA cities/towns – Sylvania, Hiltonia, Waynesboro, Statesboro, Sardis, Girard, Millen. Hiltonia is the only city to always have a car on the side of the road.

It was not my intention to speed through their small town. I had my cruise set at 62. When I saw the 40 mph sign, I immediately hit my brakes. When he pulled me over, he shot me at 64. He told me that we could do a radar test, but I did not think that would help my situation. My license and registration was taken and the ticket was written before he had any conversation with me. Not that I blame him much for that. I am sure that they have heard every excuse in the book.

Since this was my first speeding ticket, I was hoping to be let off with a warning. A warning that I would have not taken for granted. I missed some signs. I would have paid more attention on my way home. However, it could have been worse. The $400 ticket I received could have been $550 if he had said I was going 65.

Be careful – if you are going 55 (The speed limit) and you forget to take off your cruise and they shoot you – The cost of that ticket for 15 to 19 over the speed limit is $325.

From now on, I will be re-routing around Hiltonia.

Hiltonia (Augusta to Savannah)

This small town exists on highway 25 – your GPS will take you though unless you re-route manually elsewhere

Population 400 est. and in need to revenue (possibly from speed tickets).

There will be a police officer in his car behind a turn in the 1mile of road that is this town – where the limit drops from 55 to 40 and before you have had time to slow down you will be pulled.

He was a fair guy but it is very easy to miss the sign and be over the limit before you know it.

Avoid the road if you can

I was driving threw this town on my way to Daytona for my uncles service he had passed away a day or 2 before. I was driving on this road with my 4 year old and was pulled over as I passed the 40mph sign as I was slowing down for the sign. The man was old dirty and had a cast on his foot couldn’t even stand. He leaned on my car because he could hardly walk or stand the cast looked like it was the kind that goes on your arm not your foot. Any who.. he was using my car to hold him up and said I had to come back to his car because he cant stand. I HAD TO LEAVE MY 4 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR ALONE!! As he wrote the ticket I want to cry and scream at the same time. NOTHING I said to this man could get him to even budge on not giving me a ticket. Not that I had to take time away from my clinical’s for this or that my uncle just died or that I was a military spouse or that I was slowing down. he did though drop the speed to where it wouldn’t go on my points. This place is a joke and I will be fighting this!!!!!!

Highway 24 going south

I accidentally went went through this town on my way to Savannah. I was rolling in on a 55 mph zone when the parked police car turned his blue lights on, before I got out of the 55 and BEFORE I got to where he was parked. I slowed down immediately. Where he pulled me over was a 35 mph zone. He approached the car, said I was going 67, but admitted he could only clock me at 64. He had me come back to his car (full of empty soda cans, very unprofessional) showed me the radar (64) and still gave me a ticket for 67 in a 35. $405.00 Avoid this town, at all costs. There was nothing fair about the fine I received for that ticket.
