Columns Drive near Johnson Ferry Road

Marietta, GeorgiaFeb 19, 20050 Comments

Columns Dr. is a long and boring road that’s very straight with wide lanes. So it’s aggravating that the speed limit is 30 mph for about a mile, then it goes down to 25 mph as you get farther away from Johnson Ferry rd. There’s constantly a police car right about when the road goes down to 25 mph either on the North side of the road, or up on the grassy median between the two lanes.

I’ve noticed cops most frequently during the weekends in the morning, but that isn’t the only they’re there. I’ve even seen people pulled over at around 10:00 at night during the week, so it’s tough to figure out an exact pattern.

Spring Hill Parkway near Interstate 285

Marietta, GeorgiaNov 03, 20040 Comments

Spring Hill Pkwy. (behing Home Depot HQ) just outside 285 Paces Ferry/Vinings Exit. When traveling north you will encounter a steep downhill grade and several curves. Upon entering the 1/2 mile straight-away you will notice a sign that reads "Speeding Fines Increased" due to ‘Work Zone". There is nothing along this 1/2 mile stretch to indicate this. To your right (15Fort away) is 285 and the other side is completely filled with tress. The cop will be sitting on the right hand side of the road at the end of the straight-away. The speed limit along this road is a 30mph. However the minimum fine is $100 in the "Work Zone". The worst part of my experience here is that I happened to be behing a white pickup that was going 15mph or less. The moment I could see down the straight-away, I passed him. There stood Cobb County’s Finest in the middle of the road like he knew I was coming. I have 2 friends that have told me similar stories about the slow driver along this very path. Ironically enough, there stories included a white pickup. (They were smart enough not to pass the decoy.)

It is my firm belief that these cops have a very lucritive and illegal speedtrap here!

Corner Road near Macland Road

Cops sit and patrol the corner of Corner Rd. and Macland Rd. and also travel Corner Rd. frequently. They are mainly using White Camero Cop cars with no visable lights on top.

Interstate 75 at Augusta/Greenville Exit

Marietta, GeorgiaJun 01, 20030 Comments

When approaching the I-75 exit of Birmingham/Tampa and Augusta/Greenville, you will see a narrow strip of high grass when just approaching the the exits. In the brush are usually two patrol cars, one watching from the left, one watching from the right. It’s a good post up because there are so many lanes of traffic that almost anyone can be pulled over..I should know..I just got one a few days ago.

I75 from Hwy 5 overpass to Wade Green

Marietta, GeorgiaJan 10, 20030 Comments

This is a high enforcement area! Cobb County and GP Officers are always somewhere, either northbound or southbound, at all times of the day. They are especially fond of under the Hwy 5 overpass (267) for 1/2 mile north in the northbound lanes (toward 268). The officer sits in the center of the highway, usually around a mild corner, sampling speed at a surprise distance of about 750 feet. Speed limit is 65 mph, but officers regularly get persons doing 85 or more. You are safe at a speed of 8 mph above the speed limit, but do not let others push or hurry you along.
