McEver Road near Browns Birdge Road

Oakwood, GeorgiaSep 13, 20073 Comments

Coming from Gainsville College heading towards Brown Birdge the speed limit is 55 at the top of a hill then changes to 45 at the bottom of the hill. The local police love to sit down at the bottom and try and catch people coasting down the hill starting at a speed of 55 and building momentum so as when you get to the bottom you are going at least 15 20 miles over, and you have gotten yourself about a $200 ticket.

State Highway GA 53 near Meeks Drive Drive

Oakwood, GeorgiaSep 13, 20070 Comments

Oakwood City police regularly monitor speed along GA 53 from Old Oakwood Drive to the Gainesville City line. Posted limits are 55 for most of the four lane section dropping to 45 before the light where 53 makes a right turn. You can get away with 10 over here, but not more. I suspect that they award several dozen tickets a day in this section.

Mundy Mill Road near Medical Office

Oakwood, GeorgiaAug 09, 20070 Comments

The local Oakwood cops place themselves in a private parking lot on the main hwy. at anytime the medical office is not open – day or night, obviously considering themselves above the laws regarding private property. This is on a short stretch of hwy. where 55 is the limit. They also prey on unfortunate victims anywhere along any street in this city, either hidden away, or they use constant radar surveillance on any approaching vehicles as they patrol about. They do not give allowance for a single mph off of the speed they record; i.e.: no mercy given. If you should disagree with the charges, you’d better be prepared to return for more than one night to court; it’s apparent that if you can afford to bring a lawyer with you, that you will get off OK. But: If you try to represent yourself, you will be Guilty As Charged, no matter what argument you may present to the contrary. All areas in these environs should be considered "high enforcement", although the speed limits are not completely unrealistic.
