Leaving Rochelle, GA on Hwy 280 W

Rochelle, GeorgiaSep 11, 20100 Comments

I was driving through city of Rochelle, GA on Labor Day weekend. I was going westbound on 280 at ~35 mph in 35 mph zone, then sped up to ~45 mph in 45 mph zone and sped up to over 50 mph when I saw the 55 mph sign ahead. Truck in front of me (driving over 50 mph also) turned down a street, but Rochelle Police officers (2) in marked car pulled me over (in a minivan, obvious out-of-towner in this small town, non-GA plates, FL Gator stickers in Bulldog country) and said I was doing 61 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Note: I pulled off onto a dirt road so the officer wouldn’t have to sit in the side of the road and had info (license and proof of insurance) ready and hands on steering wheel (so he would feel safer approaching the car). I explained that I was coming from a reunion 1 town over and he wrote me the speeding ticket. I was 200 feet from 55 mph zone and I was about 1/4 mile from 65 mph zone.

I want to thank RPD for protecting the town of Rochelle from my reckless driving. ..Not! But I guess this is the only way they can boost their town’s coffers, because from the looks of it, Rochelle is a pretty, but slowly dying small town.
