Smyrna, Georgia Speed Traps
South Cobb Drive Between I 285 and Concord Road
The Smyrna PD sets up traps all along this stretch of South Cobb Drive. Be particularly careful going West on South Cobb Drive just before the E-W connector.
In addition, be aware that Smyrna PD sets up traps East and Westbound on South Cobb heavily between the East West Connector and King Spring Rd (at the QT station).
Weekends seem to be the worst, but I have seen it everyday of the week.
Best not to speed here at all.
Concord Road
Corner of Concord and South Cobb drive you will see a Dunken Doughnuts. Anybody coming down Concord Road towards South Cobb Drive BEWARE! They hide behind the Dunken Doughnuts sign and clock people in that 35 mph zone. Most people go 45 and I have seen them take out a slew of cars, one right after another.
705 Windy Hill (Between Atlanta Rd and South Cobb Dr)
Smyrna Police have pulled some dangerous stunts in this area to give tickets. Speed limit is 40 in this hilly area. Motorcycle cops will post up in the driveways and front lawns of small businesses and hide. A cop who was dismounted from his bike, which was parked in the driveway of a dentistry near the side walk, issued me a citation in the most dangerous of ways. After unveiling himself from his hiding place, he walks smack in the center of my lane and points the lidar at me when i am 2-300 feet away (no flashing lights or sirens)! I kid you not! I was startled b/c I thought he was aiming a weapon at me but it took a second or two for me to realize it was a cop and stop in time before hitting him…in which case he would have probably drawn his Glock in ‘self-defense’. He then directed me into the lot of the small dentistry where a cop and another victim awaited. The owners of the dentistry were contacted and they did were not aware the police were setting up traps on their property. they’d stay for 20 minutes and leave. Went to Smyrna court to attempt to fight the ticket. the jack a$$ of a prosecutor will not allow you to explain anything to the judge. so to keep from incurring additional fines if i was to lose the trial at a court date 2 weeks in the future, i decided to plead guilty even though the cop created a dangerous situation, hid on private property w/o owner consent, and was not visible for 500 feet. easy money for Smyrna b/c Smyrna court makes it difficult for one to fight a ticket. they figure that they will wear you down by wasting your time with a lot of red tape. also they were posted up in the driveway of a BBQ restaurant across the street.
Concord Rd and S. cobb intersection
They sit at parking lot located right before intersection Concord rd. with S. Cobb. Whatch out they’ll give you ticket even if you go 10 miles over speed limit (35 MPH)
The East-West Connector, from S. Cobb Dr. to Austell Rd.
The police may set up anywhere, but usually they are at the end of a long straight stretch, and clock you as you enter it from a blind curve.
